Call Her Daddy: Healthy or Unhealthy Advice

Updated: Sep 21, 2021

Podcasts have become increasingly popular, especially in the last five years. Anything from films, to horror stories, or even advice can be given on a podcast show. If you are interested in podcasts and familiar with Barstool Sports, you may have heard of Call Her Daddy. If not, let me fill you in!

Call Her Daddy began in 2018 with Alexandra Cooper and Sophia Franklyn as hosts. However, it is owned by Barstool Sports. The show features comedic elements, even though the women are giving advice, primarily about sex and love. While it would seem empowering for young women to hear advice based on relationships and sex that is not from the perspective of the male gaze, it is unclear as to whether or not all of the advice would truly go against that.

The majority of the content revolves around sex advice. While one may believe that this is groundbreaking and educational for young women, it is blatantly obvious that the podcast is primarily focused on male pleasure, which is the opposite of female sexual empowerment. There is still a gigantic stigma against women and owning their sexuality. Being a virgin is simultaneously the ideal woman and a prude. Women who are sexually empowered are shamed by their audacity to exist in the way that they please. There are multiple episodes that serve as tutorials for how to give men pleasure, but only one or two episodes that help women find pleasure.

Of course, it can be argued that some women want to learn how to give their sexual partners pleasure, however, the education on women’s pleasure is even less prevalent than that of a male’s. Additionally, learning the material may build confidence for women in the bedroom, but it can also be dangerous in the way that it is somewhat degrading.

Another stigma held against women is addressed in the podcast, which brings me to the degradation. We have seen it and heard of it in pop culture--the idea that a woman will not leave the man’s house after a casual hook up, or the idea that all women instantly catch feelings after sex. However, that is simply not the case. In Call Her Daddy, one of the important pieces of advice they give is to leave immediately after sex. However, this could be harmful to both parties involved, especially if there were any emotions in the mix of things. There is no doubt that there will be a time to leave after, however, there is a difference between boundaries and simply assuming that your work is done.

Overall, the podcast should be listened to with caution. The advice surrounding emotional relationships can be extremely toxic and can lead to harmful tendencies. However, if you’re looking to build a little confidence in the bedroom, Call Her Daddy is a good resource. Additionally, it cannot be overlooked or forgotten that this podcast is only focused on cisgender, sexual romantic relationships, which is outdated.

While Call Her Daddy may appear to be a podcast dedicated to female sexual empowerment, it is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Be sure to listen with caution, and most importantly, listen to yourself!
