The 72nd Emmy’s Awards were held on Sunday, September 20th, 2020. We saw a variety of unique looks, styles, and winners from these virtual Emmy awards. Jimmy Kimmel hosted the night filled with laughter, tears, and celebrations. This year the Emmys had an uproar of diversity in nominees, which was the biggest the Emmys have seen yet.
This year the show attempted to do something that had never been done before. Due to the pandemic, the show went under strict rules and changes. There was no live red carpet event or an after-party. There was also no live audience and nominees. The Emmys decided to have everyone home and virtually attend. During the pre-show countdown, many of the nominees admitted that if they were to win, they would be celebrating with family and just taking the time to admire the fact they have the golden Emmy in hand.
Some fashion that stood out last night was showcased through unique, traditional, and comfy styles. Since many nominees attended through their homes. There were a variety of styles present. Some attendees decided to wear pajamas to the viewing, or casual clothing, and others took it to the next level and kept it traditional and dressed up.
Jennifer Aniston introduced the first nominees for the night. She came out in a slimming classic black dress by Christian Dior.
Reese Witherspoon followed in another sleek black number with shouldered ribbons designed by Louis Vuitton.
Another stand out of last night’s Emmys was Tracee Ellis Ross who presented the outstanding writer for a comedy series, reflected an Emmy herself, in a gold metallic dress with a front slit.
Zendaya wowed everyone last night in two different gowns. Her first appearance she wore a short purple and black gown by Christopher John-Roger. Later that night we saw her take home an Emmy for her role in Euphoria. She accepted her Emmy in a custom polka-dotted look handcrafted by Giorgio Armani Privé.
Annie Murphy strayed away from a classic dress and decided to go with a pants suit from Valentino.
Last night’s performance was granted to us by H.E.R. She performed a tribute to the stars we have lost in 2020. Her song reigned over us along with her gown, she wore a pink Vera Wang dress.
Social Justice was also present in fashion. Regina King and Uzo Audoba paid tribute to Breonna Taylor by wearing shirts that said her name. King’s Breonna Taylor shirt was worn underneath her Schiaparelli pink pantsuit. Uzo Audoba matched her gold skirt with a golden print shirt of Breonna Taylor.
Not only was fashion a highlight of last night's festivals but many speeches struck out in last night’s Emmys. But two speeches that stood out the most were Catherine O’Hara and Regina King’s speech. Catherine O’Hara was the first person to win an Emmy last night. She gave an applauding speech on playing a woman of her age and being able to win an Emmy no matter at what age. Regina King began by giving thanks to her award and then reminded viewers how important it is to vote and not to forget it this upcoming season. She also paid respect to the late RBG, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
